What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be a daunting experience. Come as you are. We meet to hear the Bible taught, sing great hymns, pray to and hear from our God. All are welcome!

Bethel is a body of sinful, struggling believers without hope apart from Christ. But we believe God makes us, in Christ, whole, beautiful, and fully equipped for all the good works to which He calls us. By grace we make every effort to see one another in Christ and treasure one another because God treasures us. Absolutely lost, absolutely redeemed, absolutely committed to learning to walk with Christ, we are absolutely hopeful that He will complete His good work in us.

We are made up of married couples, singles, large families, and small families. Some of us are a few days old and some are over eighty years old.

Many of us live in the Oostburg, Wisconsin area, but our congregation is growing in reaching neighboring communities as well.

The Sunday morning worship service starts at 9:00 a.m. and the evening service starts at 6:00 p.m.

Services generally last about 75 minutes and include a sermon that lasts between thirty and forty minutes.

If you are interested in other events like Bible studies, youth activities, fellowship, prayer meetings, or other events, please visit our Calendar or follow our Facebook page.

We welcome children of all ages into the worship service, and we are prepared to hear the occasional “joyful noise” from the little ones!

We encourage you to train your children to not simply sit still through the service, but to actually engage the service as much as possible.

There is a volunteer-run nursery for children ages 0-3 in the basement during the service and Sunday School hour.

Sunday School for ages 3+ begins at 10:30 a.m. following the morning worship service.

We wear a variety of clothes. Some dress very casually, others dress up a bit more. Wear what you have and are comfortable in. We turn no one away because they violate any “dress code.”

Our congregation sings Psalms, traditional hymns, modern hymns, and praise songs. We use the Trinity Hymnal, Trinity Psalter Hymnal, and share the lyrics on our overhead screens.

Instruments can include the piano, organ, guitar, and sometimes percussion or other woodwind, brass, or string instruments on occasion.

If you’re visiting with us you may wonder whether or not you should receive the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper). We don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable in partaking. We also don’t want anyone to partake merely as a form or ritual or just to be sociable. In fact, the Bible says it is dangerous to do so. This isn’t our table. It’s not the table of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. It’s the Lord’s table. Therefore, we try to follow His instructions as nearly as we can. In light of His instructions, and in the name of Jesus Christ, we invite you to commune with us if each of the following is true:

  • You have, by faith, received Christ as Savior and are trusting in Him alone for your salvation.
  • You have been baptized (either as an infant or as an adult) in the name of the Triune God, thus having been marked out as belonging to Christ.
  • You are not presently living a life of unrepentant sin.
  • You are a member, in good standing, of a local church that proclaims the gospel.

If you can sincerely say “Yes” to each of these points, then we welcome you to the Table in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you cannot yet say “Yes” to each of these points – or if you are not sure – then we ask that you please refrain from partaking at this time and ask our pastor or one of our elders about what steps to take that will enable you to openly enjoy communion with Christ and His people.

You do not need to have any prior church experience, or any special knowledge of the Bible or Jesus Christ to visit us. We warmly welcome you and hope to walk with you as you seek real answers to the hard questions of life. You will not shock us. We have also struggled deeply, but we have found real hope and help in Jesus.
